Happy Happy Joy Joy

I'm not much of a buffet girl.  Especially not a Chinese buffet.  But from time to time I guess we all end up at one.  But, as a general rule, I stay away from buffets.  Although the champagne brunch buffet at the Hotel Coronado in San Diego is pretty flippin' amazing!  But usually buffets are picked over, tired looking and just not very exciting.

A few days ago, my mom ran into her former neighbor.  They chatted a bit and he said each week he takes his mother-in-law to lunch and that quite often they go to this Chinese place that they really like.  He went on to say that it's the ONLY Chinese place he goes to.  Why?  He knows someone who served as a missionary in China and this is the ONLY Chinese place that he will patronize. And <<gasp>> it's a buffet restaurant.
I had to check this out.  If someone who is Chinese or lived in China says it's the ONLY place to go, I wanna get in on that action.

Today I went with my mom and dad to check it out.  Now, I know this is gonna make you laugh...it's called Happy China.  It sounds like a Chinese restaurant in a sitcom.

As you enter, you'll notice that it's a large, clean and attractively decorated place.  A very friendly lady greeted us and escorted us to a table.  We quickly received our drinks and then went to help ourselves.  I can't believe how impressed I was.  First, they have tons of dishes to choose from, but interesting ones that you don't see everyday.

Like seafood spaghetti, shrimp balls, dumplings, shrimp nigiri, black pepper chicken and garlic beans.  All of the food was attractive, hot, and fresh.  Other dishes I saw were vegetable lo mein, Singapore noodle, General Tsao's chicken, butter shrimp, veggie egg rolls, meat filled spring rolls, egg fu yung, sesame chicken, teriyaki steak, hot and sour soup, sushi and fried rice.  There are plentiful desserts and they even have a pretty ample salad bar.

For you doubting Thomases out there, let me encourage you to try this place out.  Even the parental units enjoyed it and they can be pretty tough critics.  See?  Look at my Dad.  Doesn't he look happy?  Belly full o' sushi and noodles will do that to ya.

I am Jim.  Happy China Jim I am.

Happy China is located at 2250 Sunset Blvd in West Columbia.

  1. Don't you need a signed waiver or something in order to post someone's picture? I'll be happy- talking to my friends at Dewey, Cheatham and Howe about this.

    Happily,
